Job Description
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the seasonal Lifeguard position. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center pool patrons (Brown students, faculty, staff, alumni, coaches, administrators, RISD students & faculty and general community members) by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent.
Job Competencies
- Candidate must successfully demonstrate all the following swim and rescue skills as part of the interview process: Swim Test; Brick Test; Legs Only Tread; Rescue Skills Scenarios; Spinal Injury Management; CPR/AED/First Aid Scenarios.
- Ability to act swiftly in emergency situations using aquatic rescue equipment.
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding skills and rescue techniques to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until Brown emergency services arrives.
- Ability to make quick decisions and take decisive action. Assertive in enforcing facility rules and regulations consistently in a professional and customer service-oriented manner.
- Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Leadership and public relations skills.
- Must be responsible, alert, dependable and on time for scheduled shift.
