Job Description Summary
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual and institutional prospects ($10,000 and above) for select programs, centers, and institutes for both Penn Medicine and the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC).
Job Responsibilities
- Successfully grow and manage a major gift portfolio of 100+ donor prospects to meet philanthropic goals.
- Focus on donor activity management, working collaboratively with faculty and development colleagues.
- Develop an understanding of the educational, research, clinical, and financial needs and goals.
- Speak passionately and authentically about the history, achievements, and strategic direction.
- Interact persuasively and effectively with a broad range of constituents.
- Emphasize cultivation and solicitation strategies that focus on donor-centered philanthropy.
- Coordinate the participation of faculty, administration, trustees/volunteers.
- Direct and prepare major prospect proposals.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct visits and special events for prospects and donors.
- Perform needed analysis for assigned physicians and/or programs.
- Work as a productive and collegial member of the Penn Medicine and ACC Development teams.
- Oversee stewardship activities with assigned prospects.
- Report regularly to the Senior Director of Development.
- Collaborate with University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine leadership.
- Intellectual curiosity and an ability to learn about unfamiliar fields of science and medicine.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development with emphasis on major gifts.
- At least one year in an academic medical center or a large scientific/health care research institution is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals.
- Ability to travel both locally and nationally and work occasionally on nights and weekends.
