Job Description Summary

The Associate Director/ Sr. Associate Director, Major Gifts identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual and institutional prospects for the School of Nursing. The MGO/SR MGO plans, coordinates, and implements development efforts and works closely with many faculty and staff across the school. The MGO/SR MGO plays an integral role in a wide spectrum of fundraising responsibilities, including communication efforts, events, and volunteer/board management.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of 125-150 qualified potential donors with the capacity of making gifts of $250,000 or more. Includes developing long-term fundraising strategies for each assigned donor or identified prospects in the course of his/her work and in accordance with University priorities.
• Complete 120 donor meetings annually with qualified potential donors to engage, cultivate and solicit gifts in support of Penn.
• Solicit 12-15 major gifts annually, with the understanding that the first year may not reach this target
• Develop an understanding of the educational, research, innovation, and financial needs and goals of Penn Nursing.
• Speak passionately and authentically about the history, achievements, and strategic direction of the School, and have the ability to articulate that vision effectively to a diverse audience.
• Effectively represent Penn' Nursing's mission and fundraising priorities to a variety of constituencies and stakeholders.
• May include responsibility for managing volunteer committee of the board of advisors, including ensuring that they are properly staffed, deployed, and satisfied with the level of support.
• Report regularly to Vice Dean of Development and interact frequently with other colleagues on all fundraising activity through active implementation of the major gifts tracking / reporting / moves management system.
• Collaborate with University of Pennsylvania leadership and development colleagues on all matters regarding assigned prospects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years (Major Gifts Officer Job Profile) or 5-7 (Senior Major Gifts Officer Job Profile) of professional higher education development-related experience or related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Entrepreneurial and strategic fundraiser with a proven track record of successful major gift fundraising.

• Preferred familiarity with Penn and its mission OR Nursing/healthcare.

• Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams, with high personal standards representative of Penn's commitment to excellence.
• Strong strategic planning and project management skills necessary to set and monitor progress against goals, to develop plans and timelines, and to measure success toward goals.
• Discretion, good judgment, and commitment to keep confidential all data related to Penn and its alumni and donors.
