Summary of Responsibilities
- Supervisory and Leadership: Provide direct supervision, leadership, and oversight of maintenance technicians, including daily work direction, task prioritization, and workload balancing. Coordinate closely with the Director and Maintenance Scheduler regarding maintenance priorities, aircraft status, and resource availability to align maintenance activities with organizational goals. Work closely with Lead Mechanics to plan, coordinate, and execute maintenance tasks, ensuring clear communication of scope, sequencing, and technical requirements. Assign work orders and maintenance tasks based on technician qualifications, certifications, experience, and operational priorities. Serve as the primary escalation point for technical, scheduling, and personnel issues identified by Lead Mechanics or maintenance staff. Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to technicians and Lead Mechanics to promote accountability, professional development, and consistent maintenance standards. Identify training needs and coordinate with the training function to ensure technicians maintain required qualifications, authorizations, and currency. Enforce compliance with organizational policies, including safety, quality, attendance, conduct, and disciplinary standards. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and initial training of maintenance personnel; provide input on staffing needs, workforce planning, and succession planning.
- Maintenance Operations: Coordinate with the Maintenance Scheduler to review, prioritize, and schedule incoming maintenance work orders, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and aircraft availability. Coordinate with the Maintenance Scheduler to plan, manage, and adjust maintenance schedules to effectively address scheduled inspections, deferred discrepancies, and unscheduled maintenance events. Work with Lead Mechanics to sequence work orders and inspections to maximize efficiency while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance. Monitor progress of active work orders and maintenance tasks, reallocating resources as necessary to address changing priorities or emerging maintenance issues. Ensure effective utilization of labor, tooling, equipment, and facilities to meet maintenance production goals. Perform maintenance technician duties or assist technicians as needed to support maintenance production schedules and operational priorities for UVU aircraft.
- FAA Part 145 Readiness & Regulatory Oversight: Maintain continuous readiness for FAA Part 145 oversight, ensuring maintenance operations, personnel, documentation, and facilities are inspection-ready at all times. Serve as a management representative during FAA inspections, surveillance, audits, and certificate-related activities. Ensure maintenance activities comply with FAR Part 145, the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), Training Manual, and approved procedures. Verify technician qualifications, authorizations, training records, and currency requirements in accordance with FAA and Repair Station standards. Ensure all work orders, maintenance records, corrective actions, and aircraft logbook entries are accurate, complete, traceable, and audit-ready. Support the development and implementation of corrective actions resulting from FAA findings, internal audits, or quality reviews, ensuring timely closure. Reinforce a culture of continuous compliance and regulatory accountability across all maintenance operations.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to established safety policies, procedures, and hazard reporting processes. Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives. Collaborate with the Director and Lead Mechanics to identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, scheduling efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Two years of education from an accredited institution, or from a recognized trade school, plus six years of experience related to the Summary of Duties, for a total of eight years.
- Must meet all FAA and Safety Requirements and hold a valid FAA-issued A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to five years of Aircraft Maintenance experience and supervision (preferred).
- Current Inspection Authorization Rating (preferred).
