Manager, VR Development (1-year contract)
Job Description
We invite applications for the role of Manager, VR Development (1-year contract) to oversee the ALCNS innovative training centre, including the advanced Classroom Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE). This role demands vision and expertise in immersive learning technologies to elevate user engagement through emerging platforms such as VR, AR, MR, XR, and AI-enabled systems. The successful candidate will craft and execute strategic initiatives aligned with institutional aims while ensuring robust governance and operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities
- Development Project Leadership: Collaborate closely with academic teams to gather comprehensive requirements, oversee both internal and external project deployments, manage timelines effectively, and guarantee deliverables meet defined quality and usability standards.
- Immersive Technology & Facility Oversight: Steer daily operations and long-term resource planning of the immersive learning environments, optimise the utilisation of advanced hardware and software, and facilitate outreach through workshops, demonstrations, and training sessions to maximise uptake.
- Testing and Quality Assurance Coordination: Lead system validations, including comprehensive internal testing and user acceptance evaluation, engaging with academic staff and learners to refine immersive applications and ensure excellent alignment with pedagogical objectives.
- Operational and IT Support: Provide continuous maintenance support for immersive platforms and simulation deployments, implementing proactive troubleshooting and upgrades to maintain service excellence.
- Innovation and Partnership Development: Identify and pilot cutting-edge immersive technologies, foster collaborative partnerships with academic and industry stakeholders, and promote the centre’s achievements internally and externally to enhance institutional reputation.

Qualifications
Educational Background
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Information Technology, Communications and New Media, or related disciplines is required.
Professional Experience and Skills
- Demonstrable leadership capabilities in managing multi-disciplinary teams and facilitating cooperation across academic faculties and external vendors.
- Established track record in managing complex projects delivering interactive digital applications or immersive educational solutions, from conception to deployment.
- Hands-on experience with immersive technology platforms including VR, AR, MR, and XR, with preference given to candidates familiar with integrating AI technologies into immersive learning environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling clear translation of user and stakeholder needs into detailed project specifications and actionable workflows.
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in developing interactive applications using Unity 3D and/or Unreal Engine game engines.
- Experience deploying solutions across multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
- Knowledge of commercialising institutional educational technology software is advantageous, highlighting understanding of end-user adaptation and scaling considerations.
