Otago University Press, Te Whare Tā o Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka is an award-winning publisher of quality books with a focus on New Zealand and the Pacific. Our publishing list is mainly non-fiction and includes history, natural history, te ao Māori, politics, health, contemporary issues, biography and memoir, literature and the arts.
Otago University Press also publishes several collections of poetry each year, as well as Landfall Tauraka, New Zealand's longest-running and leading journal of new writing and art.
The role | Te mahi
As Marketing & Publicity Coordinator you will develop and execute marketing and publicity strategies for Otago University Press and its publications. You will also organise and promote book launches, whilst also writing producing and distributing newsletters, media releases and other marketing material.
Other key tasks include:
• Liaising with authors, media, booksellers and booksellers’ agents.
• Preparing sales material and New Title Information sheets.
• Maintaining the OUP website, Facebook page, Instagram and X feeds.
• Working proactively with book festival organisers.
• Maintaining well-organised files and databases.
Skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
Alongside a love of books and reading, you will be a responsible, efficient and enthusiastic person with strong organisational skills. You are professional with a high degree of initiative and be an excellent communicator all round.
You will also have:
• Relevant publicity and/or marketing experience, ideally within the book industry; OR a qualification in marketing, communications, publishing or a related field (e.g. the Graduate Diploma in Publishing from Whitireia New Zealand).
• Knowledge of and interest in the Aotearoa book market, publishing and publishing trends, including both traditional and digital marketing approaches.
• Experience working in a publishing house or within the book industry, with InDesign and Photoshop and with website maintenance is preferred, but not essential.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The appointment range for this position is $69,931 to $74,609. Top of Range $80,285.
