Offer Description
CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR A RESEARCH GRANT (BI) WITHIN THE SCOPE OF AN R&D PROJECT. An international call for proposals is open, lasting 10 consecutive days, for the award of a Master's Research Grant (BI), on an exclusive basis, within the scope of the project NatVALUE: Sustainable Valorization of Nature (NORTE2030-FEDER-01193500), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the NORTE2030 program, under the following conditions: Scientific Area: Engineering and Environmental Sciences.
Admission requirements: Candidates must hold a degree in Engineering and Environmental Sciences, or areas that the jury considers related and relevant to the successful completion of the tasks proposed in the project, and be enrolled in a master's program. Candidates should possess:
- Knowledge of ecosystems and ecosystem services, natural resource management, environmental impact analysis and assessment, and environmental economics and policy;
- Skills in conducting fieldwork in rural contexts involving the application of questionnaire techniques, interviews, and participatory methodologies;
- Experience in research activities, particularly relevant within the context of the Northern region.
Work plan to be developed throughout the scholarship period: The research fellow will develop the following tasks throughout the project: (1) Collaboration in conducting a study of the impacts and dependencies of companies and other organizations regarding natural capital in the Northern region; (2) Contributions to the implementation of procedures and methods to certify contributions from projects of organizations and companies for the creation and expansion of natural capital, with benefits for nature. (3) Conducting questionnaires, interviews and field activities aimed at testing and validating methodologies with companies and other organizations regarding certification within the scope of natural capital and benefits for nature and biodiversity. (4) Collaboration in actions to disseminate the project results. Within the scope of the tasks described, participation in meetings, fieldwork, as well as collaboration in the drafting of technical reports and scientific publications to be developed for each thematic area is foreseen.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Current Research Grant Holder Statute (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro) and Research Grant Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo approved by Order No. 7347/2020, of July 22.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Higher School of Agriculture of the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo.
Scholarship duration: The scholarship will last for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal for an equal period up to a maximum of 24 months, as foreseen in paragraph 4 of article 4 of the IPVC Research Scholarship Regulations and subject to project funding authorization.
Monthly maintenance allowance: The scholarship amount corresponds to €1090.98, as per the table of subsidies relating to research scholarships at IPVC, updated by the IPVC President's Order of 07-04-2026, and will be paid via bank transfer.
Special requirement for granting the scholarship amount: It is necessary to present a national tax identification number (NIF) by the end of the month in which the contract is signed, otherwise the payment will not be enforceable.
Evaluation of applications: Applications will be evaluated taking into account the admission and selection criteria set out below.
Selection criteria: Document evaluation (60%) and interview (40%). The document evaluation will be based on the following points: academic qualifications [20 points], experience in research projects and activities involving participatory methods and techniques in rural areas [20 points], work experience in companies in the environmental field [20 points], ability to communicate scientifically in writing and to disseminate science [20], participation in the organization of scientific and training events [20]. Only candidates who obtain a score of 14 or higher in the Curriculum Evaluation will be selected for the interview. If, eventually, none of the candidates possesses the profile suitable for the nature of the tasks to be performed and their good performance, the selection jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to any of the candidates. The interview evaluation will be based on the following points: motivation for the project objectives [50 points], communication skills Oral and written communication in Portuguese and English [25 points], degree of autonomy and competence demonstrated in relation to previously developed research and business activities [25 points]. Applications will be evaluated taking into account the selection criteria stated above. In the event of withdrawal by the selected scholarship holder, the second candidate on the ranked list of candidates will automatically be selected, and so on sequentially, until all admitted candidates are exhausted.
Composition of the Selection Jury: Ana Paula Vale (President); Joana Nogueira Santos (Member); Sara Cristina Simões (Member); Joaquim Mamede Alonso (alternate member).
Method of publication/notification of results: The evaluation results will be published, through an ordered list with the final grade obtained, posted on the UNIPVC Portal (www.unipvc.pt), and the approved candidate will be notified by email. After the results are announced, candidates should consider themselves notified immediately to, if they wish, comment in a preliminary hearing within a maximum period of 15 working days after that date. At the end of this period, the selected candidate should consider themselves summoned to start the scholarship.
Application deadline and submission method: The application period runs until the 10th consecutive day following the date of publication. Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter stating the title and reference of the project, describing the candidate's motivation and professional objectives, accompanied by the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae;
- Cover letter/letter of motivation (maximum one A4 page);
- Copy of qualification certificates and/or document detailing the grades obtained in the subjects of the respective course and final grade;
- Updated document proving professional status, indicating the nature of the employment relationship, functions, and average annual workload (if applicable), which may be replaced by a declaration under oath if you do not perform any professional activity or service provision;
- Document proving valid enrollment in a second cycle of studies;
- A letter of reference; Science ID.
