Mechanic III
The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility located near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.
As a Mechanic III, you will:
- Perform maintenance, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and repairs of automobiles, trucks, UTVs and other agriculture and construction equipment.
- Acquisition and inventory of repair parts.
- Conduct and record vehicle safety inspections at scheduled intervals. Assist with the management of fuel storage systems.
- Occasional fabrication or modification of equipment mechanical systems.
This position requires work in inclement weather. Due to the size of the facility, a valid driver's license is required to travel between sites.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma plus three (3) years of experience with vehicle maintenance and repairs of gas engines required; equivalency considered.
- Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform vehicle maintenance and repair minor vehicle problems.
- Valid driver's license with ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
- Associate's degree in mechanical field such as diesel technology, automotive technology, agriculture mechanics, or related field.
- Experience in agriculture mechanics.
- Agricultural mechanic skills.
- Repair and diagnostic skills with engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and equipment electrical systems.
- Computer diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
- Spot painting and welding skills.
- Self-starter, independent worker, thorough and timely with repairs.
