Media Production Associate

Position Summary

The Media Production Associate will work with the Communications team to produce video and photographic assets for a variety of purposes for the School of the Arts. Subjects may include interviews with faculty describing SoA programs; testimonial interviews with alumni or donors; School events, including lectures, panels, and ceremonies; action footage of students in academic and performance/exhibition situations; and necessary footage/images that might serve as ?b-roll?.

Responsibilities

General Production Management:

  • Independently manages multiple multimedia projects from intake through final delivery, establishing timelines, production plans, and stakeholder coordination under general supervision.
  • Serves as the primary consultant to school clients on video and photography requests, advising on scope, format, creative approach, and distribution needs.
  • Exercises independent judgment in prioritizing assignments, balancing urgent and competing requests, and resolving production issues with limited supervisory input, ensuring all final assets are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Acts as the on-site primary decision-maker for all video and photo shoots, interfacing with stakeholders across the School of the Arts.
  • Oversees day-to-day media operations logistics, including scheduling, workflow coordination, release tracking, file standards, and delivery protocols.
  • Ensures production activities follow established communications and operational standards and recommends workflow improvements to increase efficiency.

Event Videography:

  • Work with event coordinator to understand needs of the given event.
  • Arrange for equipment and organize set up and breakdown times.
  • Film the event.
  • Edit footage for its intended use, including adding appropriate titling.
  • Prepare files appropriately for their intended distribution channel.

Photography:

  • Work with Communications and clients to understand the needs for assignments, including event photography requests and other arranged photo shoots, resulting in a formal or informal ?shot list.?
  • Arrange for equipment.
  • For posed or arranged shots, direct photo subjects; maintain info during the shoot for purposes of shot IDs.
  • If appropriate, under advisement of Communications, secure releases from photo subjects.
  • For candids, work to get a range of interesting, usable shots that meets the needs of the shot list without being intrusive or disruptive.
  • Edit and prepare image exports. Deliver to Communications shared frame.io workspace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree required. 2 years related experience required.
  • Superior organizational and communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively and creatively with all programs and offices within the School of the Arts, required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong editorial/visual sensibility.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in DSLR and Video Production in the following areas ? lighting interviews, live sound recording, photographing and video of interviews and b-roll. Candidate must have demonstrated experience with the Nikon Z6III and Sony PXW-FS5.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the following software: Final Cut Pro 7, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere among others, as well as proficiency compressing video and stills for the web and print, with demonstrated expertise with following software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Media Encoder, Apple Compressor, Sorrenson Squeeze, Mpeg Streamclip among others.
