Medical Assistant
Job Summary
Provides assistive care to patients. Facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Assists with clerical and administrative functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have the ability to communicate (written and verbal) medical terminology in English at an advanced level.
- Demonstrated phlebotomy skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology and non-invasive diagnostic equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and ophthalmoscope and otoscope) as well as an excellent understanding of a basic physical examination.
- Must have excellent desktop computer skills and have a general knowledge of audio-video recording systems.
- Must have skills and relevant hands on experience acquired from working in a procedure based medical environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma/GED required.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Medical Assistant Certificate or LVN or equivalent from an accredited course of study is required.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card (must be obtained within first month of employment at applicant’s expense).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
- 2+ years recent prior experience in a medical office environment.
- The ability to communicate (written and verbal) medical terminology in Spanish at an advanced level.
Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.
Expected Pay Scale
- Minimum: $21.42 Hourly
- Maximum: $21.42 Hourly
