Medical Technologist I - Comparative Coagulation
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Medical Technologist I to join the Comparative Coagulation Lab at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC). The Laboratory provides specialized diagnostic testing and expert consultation to support the identification and management of coagulation disorders in animals. In this role, you will perform a range of coagulation assays and adhere to quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate, timely diagnostic results for clients. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing a comprehensive range of case intake, specimen processing, research and diagnostic testing, and result reporting.
- Assisting with the preparation of reagents and maintenance of chemical and laboratory supply inventories.
- Assisting with unit training as directed.
- Monitoring and maintaining job related certifications and training.
Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, or a related science discipline, equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices, including proper handling of biological specimens and hazardous materials.
- Ability to adhere to established quality assurance processes.
- Basic computer skills with an ability to learn new software quickly.
- Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the positions including sitting or standing for extended periods of time at benches, biological safety cabinets, microscopes or while using laboratory equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing coagulation assays.
- Experience working within an organization with an established quality management system.
- Veterinary diagnostics experience.
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure and/or ASCP certification.
Important Details about the Position
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
- This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
