Mental Health Specialist III
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III for the Outpatient Services Department in Newark within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist III is to participate as a member of the Extended Outpatient Team in providing comprehensive mental health care to children and their families. Demonstrates competence in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of children with emotional and/or developmental needs. Provides appropriate leadership and renders service in accordance with UBHC policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Participates in the provision of mental health and youth development activities.
- Ensures all client interactions are recorded via a progress note in EMR.
- Responsible for upkeep and maintenance records of program vehicle(s).
- Participates and contributes to the treatment of clients on an as needed basis in collaboration with the clinical staff.
- Effectively co-leads therapeutic activities for clients.
- May design and implement workshop, groups and/or in collaboration with school district and other UBHC personnel. Manages youth development activities to ensure safety of all students.
- Makes home and school visits as indicated by record review.
- Participates in the intake and registration process for youth and family.
Minimum Education and Experience: Three (3) years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field or one (1) year of full-time paid experience (part time and/or per diem experience may be substituted for the full-time equivalent) along with at least two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, including twenty-four (24) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, such as psychology, social work, counseling or three (3) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, including thirty-six (36) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, such as psychology, social work, counseling.
