• Developing biomaterial- or solid-state membranes for Organ-on-Chip systems
• This may include microfluidic design and fabrication, membrane self-assembly from spider silk or laser-based fabrication from thin plastic films, optical evaluation, and iterative optimization
• Projects within this scope are more likely to be exploratory and highly independent
• Neuropsychiatric disease modeling using Organ-on-Chip or organoid systems
• This may include evaluation of different commercial platforms for setting up BBB models, and/or optimization of relevant on-chip or off-chip culture protocols
• Projects within this scope are more likely to have clear structure and to be embedded in a collaborative project team
• Electrochemical sensors and their integration for in-vitro and point-of-care applications
• Depending on interest and background, this may include optimizing liquid handling robotic hardware for accuracy & precision, integrating pump and sensing functionality with existing microfluidics or robotics, and/or developing and optimizing new sensor functionalities
• Projects within this scope would likely have a balance of structure and exploration, and of independence and teamwork

Your role would typically entail:

• learn about the field and its challenges
• design and conduct experiments in our microfabrication / chemical / biological labs
• optimize hardware / software / biology
• reflect, evaluate, and iterate on your results
• regularly report to, and discuss with, a project supervisor

We are looking for candidates who:

• Are highly motivated and creative
• Are able to work and problem-solve independently
• Want to contribute to cutting-edge research in an interdisciplinary environment
• Have some project-relevant educational background and/or experience
