New Genres Area Lecturer
New Genres Area Lecturer
University of California Los Angeles
Requisition Number: JPF10948
The UCLA Department of Art empowers students to reshape their worlds through critical inquiry and transformative creativity. We are creating a pool of candidates to teach courses in the New Genres Area of the department for the 2026-27 academic year. Members of the pool would be called upon to teach lower division, upper division or graduate students as needed and dependent upon funding. New Genres applicants must be able to teach across artistic mediums including moving image, sound, performance, installation, hybrid, and emerging art forms.
The New Genres Area curriculum includes moving image, sound, performance, installation, hybrid, and emerging art forms. The program invites students to question preconceived ideas about the roles art plays in society, and to examine how these roles are impacted by specific forms and mediums. To that end, students are encouraged to experiment with artistic process, to track the way that ideas change as they move through various modes of production, and to examine how content is affected by methods of display and dissemination.
