CITIES at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Junior Research Scientist to support research involving survey data, social science experiments, misinformation, artificial intelligence, and social networks. Applicants with a background in the social sciences, strong computational skills, and experience using R are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include a competitive salary and benefits.
The successful applicant will contribute to research examining important social science questions through survey analysis and experimental methods. The position will involve supporting current studies, developing follow-up projects, and contributing to the preparation of academic papers and research reports. Candidates will work closely with social scientists and other researchers throughout the research process.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Analyzing and managing survey data;
- Contributing to the design of follow-up studies and projects;
- Supporting the design and implementation of social science experiments;
- Conducting data analysis using R;
- Contributing to academic papers, research reports, and other scholarly outputs; and
- Supporting the general research activities and day-to-day functioning of the research team.
Candidate Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a social science field, although a master’s degree is preferred with less than 5 years of research experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working with survey data, knowledge of social science experiments, and proficiency in R.
Applicants should have excellent computational, analytical, and data-management skills, as well as a good understanding of social science research processes and practices. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute effectively to collaborative research projects are essential. Exceptional candidates with a computer science background will also be considered, particularly those with a demonstrated record of working with social scientists and addressing social science research questions. Experience or a strong interest in misinformation, artificial intelligence, and social networks would be an advantage.
