Curtin University invites applications for the position of Northern Star Professor of Metallurgy, a prestigious academic leadership appointment within the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM). Established through a strategic partnership with Northern Star Resources, this role offers a rare opportunity to lead internationally significant research, educational innovation and industry collaboration from one of the world's foremost mining regions. The Professor will provide strategic leadership across metallurgy and minerals processing, driving research excellence in pyrometallurgy, extractive metallurgy and related processing technologies. Working closely with industry, government and research partners, the successful candidate will lead major multidisciplinary research initiatives addressing critical minerals, sustainable resource processing, decarbonisation and the future of metals production.

The role will also play a pivotal part in advancing undergraduate and postgraduate education, ensuring curriculum remains aligned with emerging technologies, industry needs and international best practice. The Professor will mentor academic staff and research students while contributing to the long-term growth and global reputation of WASM.

We are seeking candidates with:

A PhD in metallurgy, minerals processing, chemical engineering or a related discipline.
An international reputation in pyrometallurgy, extractive metallurgy and/or minerals processing.
A distinguished record of high-impact research, competitive funding success and industry collaboration.
Experience leading major interdisciplinary research programs and strategic partnerships.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research supervision and academic leadership.
