Nurse Clinical/UKHC
The Chandler Emergency Department is composed of seven distinct care areas, each designed to meet specific patient needs. Triage serves as the initial evaluation point where patients are assessed to determine the priority of their care. The Chairs Area is intended for low-acuity patients who can typically be evaluated and discharged within 60 minutes; common complaints include sore throat, isolated extremity injuries, or simple lacerations.
The Acute, Express, and Flex Care area is a 30-bed zone where patients with common emergency concerns such as abdominal pain, stable chest pain, or mild to moderate shortness of breath to receive treatment. The Observation Unit consists of 24 beds and provides care for patients admitted to observation, floor, or progressive care status while they await an available inpatient room.
Critical Care includes 8 beds designated for the most seriously ill or injured patients, including trauma patients requiring continued resuscitative care and those needing intensive therapies such as vasoactive infusions. The UK Level I Trauma Center contains an additional 8 beds equipped to manage the most complex traumatic injuries.
To support fluctuating patient volumes, many of these areas also have the capability to utilize hallway treatment spaces when room availability is limited.
The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Furthermore, this environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction.
