Job Description

The University of Missouri’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Environmental Medicine is seeking a full time Nurse Practitioner-Specialty Care (NPSC) or Physician Assistant-Specialty Care (PASC) to support its expanding inpatient pulmonary and critical care service. This role provides comprehensive clinical care across weekdays, weekends, and nights, supporting the division’s ongoing growth and commitment to high quality, team based patient care.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will practice with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with attending physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver evidence based critical care. Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with acute and chronic pulmonary and critical care conditions; conducting comprehensive evaluations with appropriate documentation; developing and adjusting individualized treatment plans; ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic studies; prescribing medications and blood products within established protocols; documenting care through admission, daily progress, procedure, and discharge notes; and communicating patient status and care plans to the healthcare team in a timely manner.
The APP will educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and care plans to promote understanding and adherence, serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals, and effectively address and help resolve patient and family concerns related to care delivery. When appropriate, the APP will also provide preventive health guidance and support post discharge planning to ensure continuity of care.
The APP will demonstrate expert clinical judgment, recognize deviations from expected findings that require timely intervention, and apply current research and evidence based practice standards to clinical care. Responsibilities also include participating in quality improvement initiatives, identifying patient care trends, and collaborating with physician leadership to review programmatic and outcomes data in support of excellence in patient care.
The APPs practice within a highly collaborative, academic medical environment which includes coverage of a busy 36 bed intensive care unit supported by resident, fellow, and attending coverage during the day and noctensivist coverage at night.
This full time position is part of a growing APP team, with an anticipated total of six providers. Clinical coverage has some flexibility, with approximately 26 weeks of inpatient service annually and an average of 80 hours per two week period. Scheduling is currently structured in a 7 days on/7 days off model, final details will be individualized at the time of hire and expected to evolve as the program continues to expand.

Minimum Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing degree. Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.
