OBGYN Clerkship Director (Med Clinical Prof-Med Series)

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SOM), located on the campus of The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Its accelerated curriculum enables students to earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in seven years; the inaugural MD class graduated in 2020. CUNY SOM also offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program. The school’s mission is twofold: (1) to provide medical and PA education to students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine, with a commitment to primary care in underserved communities; and (2) to conduct innovative research in community health, health professions education, and biomedical science, translating findings into meaningful clinical impact.

As a community-based medical school, CUNY SOM delivers clinical education through partnerships with affiliated health institutions across the New York metropolitan area. Based at the Harlem campus, the OBGYN Clerkship Director oversees clerkship implementation by serving as a liaison among students, faculty, and school administration, and collaborates with site directors and affiliate faculty to monitor teaching and assessment across all clinical sites.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Clinical Professor - Medical Series, a full-time, non-tenure track position, in the Department of Clinical Medicine, reporting to the Department Chair. The Clerkship Director will join a team of mission-driven educators and scholars and will have access to collaborative and mentorship opportunities across departments, including Medical Education, Community Health and Social Medicine (CHASM), Library Sciences, and Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS). Opportunities are available to leverage the institution’s research infrastructure in support of scholarly interests.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a standardized didactic curriculum in Obstetrics and Gynecology for third-year medical students across all clinical sites.
  • Lead interactive, student-centered educational sessions (typically one afternoon per week).
  • Direct the simulation-based end-of-clerkship OSCE at the NYSIM Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
  • Ensure alignment of teaching with national curricular guidelines, CUNY SOM Educational Program Objectives (EPOs), Foundational Competencies (FCs), and clerkship-level learning objectives.
  • Chair Clerkship Grading Committee meetings, oversee grading processes, and provide feedback to clinical site directors on evaluation practices.
  • Conduct periodic clinical site visits to ensure consistency in student experiences and assessment practices.
  • Oversee advanced clinical rotations, including fourth-year OBGYN electives and sub-internships.
  • Participate in institutional committees (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee).
  • Mentor students and serve as a faculty advisor for student organizations, including the OBGYN Special Interest Group (SIG).
  • Contribute to broader medical education efforts, including teaching in courses such as Practice of Medicine (POM), Organ Systems, Anatomy, Clinical Skills Assessment, and Introduction to Internship (ITI).

This full-time position includes dedicated time for clinical practice, with flexible scheduling to accommodate clinical responsibilities. The institution provides support for professional development, including participation in regional and national medical education conferences.
