Pay Range: $19.00/Hour without a CDL / $20.00 with Class B/C CDL and current MEC. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary
The On Demand Shuttle Driver serves as a professional vehicle operator within the Parking and Transportation Services unit at UCCS. This position supports the university's mission by providing safe, reliable, and customer-focused transportation for students, faculty, staff, and campus guests. The role primarily supports planned off campus charter transportation within approximately a 100 mile radius of UCCS and may also provide coverage for on campus shuttle routes as needed. This is an on demand, part-time position requiring flexibility to meet campus and charter transportation needs. The position requires operation of commercial passenger vehicles in compliance with all safety, regulatory, and university standards.
Essential Functions
- (60%) Shuttle and Charter Operations: Provide safe, dependable transportation for passengers to both on campus and approved off campus destinations (within a 100 mile radius). Operate commercial motor vehicle shuttles ranging from approximately 14–45 passengers. Maintain assigned route schedules, departure times, and passenger counts. Demonstrate sound judgment while navigating traffic, weather, road conditions, and passenger situations. Safely assist passengers with boarding and unloading, including professional assistance for passengers with disabilities. Cover open or unplanned shifts when other drivers are unavailable due to illness or scheduling needs. Operate charter services for athletic teams, campus departments, and student organizations, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- (20%) Vehicle Safety, Inspection, and Care: Perform required pre trip and post trip vehicle inspections with a high degree of accuracy. Conduct routine operating tasks including refueling, fluid checks, sweeping, and cleaning vehicles. Report vehicle defects, safety concerns, or mechanical issues in a timely manner. Maintain compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and university safety standards.
- (10%) Administrative and Communication Duties: Accurately complete route logs, inspections, passenger counts, and other required documentation. Use phones, tablets, computers, email, and text messaging to support daily operations and timely communication. Respond professionally to passengers, supervisors, and campus partners.
- (5%) Training and Support Activities: Participate in mandatory training sessions twice annually (January and August). Assist with occasional driver training on campus fleet vehicles as requested.
- (5%) Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional duties related to parking, transportation, or fleet operations in support of campus needs.

Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C or higher, with passenger endorsement and air brake endorsement or willingness to obtain.
- Must possess a valid and maintain a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate or ability to obtain prior to driving assignments.
- Must demonstrate experience operating passenger vehicles requiring a CDL, or the ability to be trained.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess ability to complete physical components of the job, including ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check, driving record review, and drug screening.
- Subject to random driving record checks and random alcohol and drug screenings throughout employment.
- Must maintain availability to attend mandatory training sessions in January and August each year.
- Ability to perform minor vehicle tasks such as replacing headlights or tail lamps is highly desirable.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with vehicle systems is preferred.
- Experience assisting with basic administrative or office support tasks (filing, data entry) is preferred.
- Previous experience with campus, transit, or charter transportation environments is highly desirable.
Note: For well qualified candidates hired without a CDL, the department will cover required training and testing costs.
