The role
As Open Access Service Manager you play a critical role in ensuring the University's research outputs are made openly accessible in line with funder and REF requirements. Leading a high volume, researcher facing service, you support institutional compliance, drive service development, and help to advance the University's wider open research ambitions.
As Open Access Service Manager you will
- Lead and develop the University's Open Access Service, ensuring a high quality, responsive service for researchers and students.
- Manage and continuously improve workflows supporting the deposit of open access publications and doctoral theses into the institutional repository.
- Line manage and support Open Access Advisers, driving service quality, performance and staff development.
- Manage significant open access budgets, ensuring compliant, effective use of block grants and institutional funds, with clear reporting.
- Provide expert advice on open access policy and practice, representing the service internally and externally and contributing to advocacy and training activities.
What we are looking for
- Experience of delivering a user focused, high demand service in a complex organisational environment.
- Proven staff management experience, with the ability to motivate, support and develop a team.
- Experience of managing budgets and financial reporting, with strong attention to detail and accountability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in advising, negotiating and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrable knowledge of scholarly communications, open access publishing and the higher education research environment.
