“Open” Postdoctoral Position :
Unlike a standard position, this fellowship offers a high degree of freedom for the candidate to propose their own research project, which should align with the themes of the MOST team. Possible topics include:
- Fundamental turbulence,
- High-fidelity numerical simulation (DNS, LES),
- Innovative numerical methods,
- Physical or data-driven modeling,
- Turbulence-complex phenomena interactions.
The recruited researcher will:
- Design and conduct an original research project aligned with the scientific interests of the MOST team.
- Develop or use high-fidelity simulation tools (DNS, LES, hybrid approaches, etc.).
- Contribute to the development of innovative numerical methods or turbulence models.
- Perform large-scale simulations using high-performance computing facilities.
- Interact with team members and academic or industrial collaborators.
- Publish research results in leading journals and present them at international conferences.
- Participate in the scientific activities of the MOST team.
Joint Research Unit (UMR 5519) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (Grenoble INP) and the University Grenoble-Alpes (UGA). LEGI carries out a wide range of research activities with a common ground: fluid mechanics and related transport phenomena.
Scientific Context:
The MOST team develops advanced approaches for the numerical simulation of turbulent flows, with a dual objective: improving the fundamental understanding of turbulence and developing predictive tools for complex applications, particularly in industrial and environmental contexts.
Its activities include:
- development of advanced numerical methods (numerical schemes, HPC, mesh adaptation, multi-fidelity),
- turbulence modeling (LES, hybrid models, data-driven approaches),
- study of fundamental phenomena (intermittency, bifurcations, extreme events, quantum turbulence),
- complex flows (complex geometries, multiphase flows, multiphysics coupling).
LEGI provides a leading research environment in fluid mechanics, combining modeling, high-performance simulation and experiments.
The recruited person will be assigned to the MOST team. The research activities of the MOST (Modelling and Simulation of Turbulence) team focus on the numerical prediction of turbulent and multiphase flows with a broad range of objectives from fundamental understanding of flow properties to technologies optimization. The research team has the ambition to address all the needed scientific fields to understand turbulent and multiphase flows from simulation: numerical methods, turbulence models, physics of fluids, flow control...
The main objective is to develop numerical tools to efficiently predict and to deeply understand flows in more and more physically and geometrically complex configurations. This activity is inherently multidisciplinary with strong collaborations with other scientific fields, as applied mathematics or statistical physics. Fluid mechanics is ubiquitous in geophysical and industrial applications. Better understanding of flows will help to deal with major challenges to deal with new energy and environmental constraints. Collaborations with experts in geosciences and in renewable energy development have been set-up to respond to these societal issues.
