Open-Rank, Criminal Law or Business-Related Courses
The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University is seeking applicants to serve on its full-time faculty who are interested in teaching criminal law and/or business-related courses.
The School invites applicants from entry-level to those seeking a tenured appointment. Entry-level candidates need not have any prior law school teaching experience but must show significant promise for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The School encourages applications from all candidates who will contribute to the school’s stimulating intellectual environment. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with each candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Candidates will have the exciting opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with a holistic approach to legal education that focuses on the doctrinal knowledge, practical skills, and values-based professional identity students need for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should have a passion for teaching, scholarship, and service, and should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be well-suited to work in a collegial and student-oriented culture.
In addition to teaching courses in the School of Law, faculty responsibilities will include (1) contributing to the scholarly mission of the School; (2) advising and mentoring students; and (3) participating in law school and University service as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school
- Exemplary academic record
- Successful completion of the bar exam in at least one U.S. state
- Demonstrated interest in teaching and student mentorship and in creating an inspiring, welcoming, and dynamic learning environment for all students
- Clear commitment to legal scholarship
- Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with other law school faculty and staff
- Willingness to contribute actively to the mission, vision, and objectives of the School and University
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in the practice of law or in a related professional field
- Prior teaching experience at a law school or graduate school.
- Record of scholarly publications and presentations that contribute to the improvement of the law, legal education, and/or the legal profession
- Active engagement is with professional organizations, such as discipline-specific organizations and bar associations
