Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Lecturer of Writing and Language Studies (First Year Writing Program) beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Responsibilities include (1) delivering quality instruction in an award-winning first year writing program across multiple campuses (Edinburg, Harlingen, Brownsville), (2) teaching corequisite college-readiness and/dual enrollment first year writing courses as needed, and (3) engaging in service and professional development activities in the Department of Writing & Language Studies.

Minimum Qualifications:
The qualifications to be considered as a three-year lecturer are 1) a master's degree from an accredited institution in English with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in Rhetoric and Composition, or 2) a master's degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline (for example, Technical Communication, Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, or Curriculum and Instruction) with at least one year of first-year writing teaching experience
The candidate's rank will be determined by the following criteria:
Lecturer I | 0-3 years full-time teaching experience
Lecturer II | 3-6 years full-time college teaching experience
Lecturer III | 6-9 years full-time college teaching experience
Sr. Lecturer | > 9 years of full-time college teaching experience
Preferred Qualification:
(1) PhD in Rhetoric and/or Writing or related field; (2) two years teaching first year writing at the post-secondary level (for candidates with a Rhetoric and Composition degree); (3) experience teaching in multiple modalities (online, hybrid, dual enrollment). (4) Graduate coursework in Rhetoric & Composition pedagogy.
