Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional program boasts a unique curricular structure, which provides nearly two years of hands-on training in the college’s general and specialty clinics. Additionally, the College is a leader in the training of Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students in the areas of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Pathobiology. The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people through instruction, innovative research, service, and leadership. The department is home to the college’s Veterinary Health Center where our faculty provide clinical care, teach, and develop innovative treatments and therapies.

The Oncology Service in the MU College of Veterinary Medicine includes all three sub-specialties: medical, radiation, and surgical. The service is the second highest revenue generating service in our hospital, managing approximately 1,500 consultations every year. Comprised of four faculty members, the Medical Oncology team supervises six medical oncology residents annually, as well as contributes to the supervision and training of small animal rotating interns as well as oncology interns each year. In addition to patient care and treatment, house officer training, and DVM student education, the faculty in the service contribute to research activities both in the College of Veterinary Medicine, through public-private partnerships and clinical trials, and with the greater MU community through collaboration with the School of Medicine, the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, and the NextGen Precision Medicine Initiative.

We are seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full Tenure/Tenure Track Professor to join our Medical Oncology Service . Incumbents will be expected to maintain a strong caseload, participate in house officer training and DVM student education, as well as drive a robust translational research program that seeks to develop new and innovative treatments, improve diagnostic capabilities, increase patient outcomes, and drive understanding of cancer as a disease. They will be expected to participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary research efforts seeking to understand and treat cancer.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality treatment and patient care as a member of the medical oncology service.
