Ophthalmic Technician Associate/Intermediate/Senior - Brighton Center for Specialty Care
Perform the duties of an ophthalmic technician, including, but not limited to:
- Provide exceptional patient care
- Provide assistance to ophthalmologists
- Perform testing related to diagnostic evaluation of the visual system
- Assist in in-office procedures and treatments
- Actively monitor clinic workflow
- Assist in research studies
- Assist in training and coordinating the work of other ophthalmic team members
- Assist in onboarding new employees
Associate level:
- Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in health science area is desirable
- Successful completion of Michigan Medicine's 12-week training program is required, or some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year of employment
- Respectful and compassionate attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation.
- Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attendance record
- Electronic Medical Record experience
- Demonstrate integrity and commitment to meeting and exceeding the needs of our patients and referring physicians
- Demonstrate understand and compliance with University policies and KEC guiding principles that promote Caring, Teamwork, Integrity, and Innovation
Intermediate level:
- Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in the health science area is desirable
- Reasonable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required
- Respectful and compassionate attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation.
- Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attendance record
- Electronic Medical Record experience
- Demonstrate understand and compliance with University policies and KEC guiding principles that promote Caring, Teamwork, Integrity, and Innovation
- Demonstrate integrity and commitment to meeting and exceeding the needs of our patients and referring physicians
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is desired
Senior level:
- Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in the health science area is desirable
- Considerable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required
- Respectful and compassionate attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation.
- Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attendance record
- Electronic Medical Record experience
- Demonstrate understand and compliance with University policies and KEC guiding principles that promote Caring, Teamwork, Integrity, and Innovation
- Demonstrate integrity and commitment to meeting and exceeding the needs of our patients and referring physicians
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is desired
This is full-time, working Monday through Friday. The hours depend on the clinic operation hours.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
