About Us

Spanning the historic streets of the “city of dreaming spires”, the University of Oxford has been ranked the world’s leading university for ten consecutive years. A place where centuries of tradition meet world-changing innovation, we offer you the chance to shape the future while working in an inspiring environment that promotes excellence. Here, you’ll contribute to an organisation which delivers ground-breaking research that tackles global challenges - from advancing sustainability to pioneering healthcare solutions - and join a diverse, inclusive community that champions your wellbeing, development, and aspirations. Apply now to become part of our extraordinary legacy.

The Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach (UAO) Office delivers a wide range of programmes designed to engage and inspire young people, supporting aspiration, attainment, and progression to higher education. Central to this work is the development of high-quality, intellectually stimulating learning experiences that are both academically rigorous and genuinely engaging for school-aged learners.

This role sits within the Outreach Learning Design team and plays a critical role in shaping the educational quality of UAO’s programmes. The postholder will bring substantial classroom experience and deep pedagogical expertise to the design and development of learning content across a range of initiatives, including the Oxplore Home of Big Questions and related programmes.

What We Offer

Working at the University of Oxford offers several exclusive benefits, such as:

  • 38 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays) to support your wellbeing, with the option to purchase up to 10 extra days and additional leave after long service.
  • One of the most generous family leave schemes in UK higher education, offering up to 26 weeks of full-pay maternity and adoption leave, plus 12 weeks of full-pay paternity/partner leave.
  • A commitment to hybrid and flexible working to suit your lifestyle.
  • An excellent contributory pension scheme.
  • Affordable and sustainable commuting options, including a cycle loan scheme, discounted bus travel, and season ticket loans.
  • Access to a vibrant community through our social, cultural, and sports clubs.

About the Role

Working closely with non-specialist colleagues, the postholder will act as a pedagogical expert, advising on, shaping, and strengthening the educational approach of outreach activity. They will translate complex academic ideas into accessible, engaging content for young people, ensuring that all materials are thoughtfully structured, developmentally appropriate, and designed to support meaningful learning outcomes.

The role requires a strong understanding of how young people learn, alongside the ability to design content that balances academic challenge with creativity and engagement. This includes developing resources that capture students’ interest using tone, narrative, and where appropriate humour, while maintaining intellectual integrity.

In addition, the postholder will contribute to the continuous improvement of programmes by working with colleagues to review content, draw on evaluation and evidence, and refine approaches to maximise impact. They will collaborate across teams and with colleagues across the collegiate University to ensure that outreach work is aligned with strategic objectives and underpinned by research and robust pedagogy.

About You

  • Significant experience in the UK secondary education sector, with substantial time spent teaching and working directly with students in Key Stages 3–5.
  • Strong pedagogical expertise, with a proven ability to design, sequence, and deliver high-quality learning experiences that support student engagement and progression.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing educational content or programmes, including lesson plans, schemes of work, or curriculum-aligned resources for school-aged learners.
  • Deep understanding of how young people learn, including the ability to translate complex or abstract concepts into accessible, engaging content.
  • Ability to apply pedagogical expertise beyond the classroom, including advising and supporting non-specialist colleagues to design effective learning experiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders (including students, teachers, academics, and partners) and to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and provide constructive challenge where needed
