P/T ICL Development Officer
Position Announcement
Utah Tech University seeks an experienced and strategic Development Officer (Part-Time) to advance the mission and growth of the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL), a lifelong learning nonprofit affiliated with the university. This position plays a critical leadership role in building philanthropic support, expanding community partnerships, and strengthening ICL's long-term sustainability and impact.
The Development Officer will serve as the primary advancement liaison for ICL, working under the direction of the ICL Executive Director and reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Community Engagement. The role partners closely with Utah Tech University's Development Department to align fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and institutional priorities.
This position is ideal for a highly relational, self-directed professional who brings both strategic insight and executional excellence to fundraising and partnership development.
Responsibilities
Strategic Fundraising & Portfolio Management
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with ICL and university priorities and policies
- Build and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, including individuals, foundations, and corporate partners
- Lead the full donor lifecycle: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Notify or partner with university advancement staff on major gifts, planned giving, and campaign initiatives
- Develop compelling cases for support tied to lifelong learning, community engagement, and access
Institutional & Community Partnership Development
- Establish and strengthen high-impact partnerships across the region, including business, civic, and educational organizations
- Position ICL as a leading hub for lifelong learning and community engagement in Southern Utah
- Engage community members and program participants as philanthropic partners and advocates
- Represent ICL and Utah Tech at key ICL donor-facing events
Advancement Strategy & Alignment
- Serve as ICL's liaison to Utah Tech's Development Department to ensure coordinated donor strategy and messaging
- Contribute to ICL's advancement planning, including campaign alignment and funding priorities
- Collaborate with the ICL Council leaders and Executive Director to identify funding opportunities and strategic initiatives
- Ensure all fundraising efforts reflect university policies, priorities, and brand standards
Communications & Stewardship
- Oversee development of high-quality donor communications, proposals, and impact reports
- Design and implement stewardship strategies that deepen long-term donor engagement
- Articulate ICL's mission and impact through compelling storytelling and data-informed messaging
Events & Engagement
- Provide leadership for donor cultivation and recognition events
- Support strategic engagement opportunities that expand ICL's visibility and philanthropic base
- Collaborate with campus and community partners to enhance event impact and reach
Data, Metrics & Reporting
- Utilize donor management systems to track engagement, pipeline activity, and outcomes
- Establish measurable goals and regularly report progress to ICL and university leadership
- Use data to inform strategy, improve performance, and guide decision-making
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred)
- Five (5)+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, development, or external relations
- Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing philanthropic support
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively within a larger institutional framework
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education advancement or nonprofit leadership
- Knowledge and experience with lifelong learning programs
- Familiarity with comprehensive fundraising campaigns and major gift development
- Knowledge of Southern Utah's philanthropic, political, and community landscape
- Experience working with lifelong learning, community education, or engagement-focused programs
- Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge or similar platforms)
Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Part-time hourly staff (approx. 12 hours per week) position with flexible scheduling, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities for events and donor engagement. Some local travel may be required.
