Part-time Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

This is a part-time position with no benefits. The position is set up for 1,000 hours per year.
The assistant coach for men’s soccer is responsible for assisting the head men’s soccer coach in implementing and directing all phases of a NCAA Division III men’s soccer program at DePauw University. This includes recruiting quality student-athletes, organizing and planning practices and game strategies, scouting, coaching, scheduling, budgeting and planning team travel in compliance with University, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Understand and comply with NCAA Division III, conference and University rules and regulations. Demonstrate sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
- Implement and execute a comprehensive recruiting plan for the identification and recruitment of qualified student-athletes, and maintain an acceptable roster per the University.
- Demonstrate a scheduling philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student-athletes.
- Develop and implement plans and strategies for practices and competition which result in athletics success.
- Mentor student-athletes to ensure athletics and academic success.
- Schedule competition, make transportation and lodging arrangements for team travel.
- Administer a fiscally sound athletics program.
- Evaluate program effectiveness.
- Monitor student-athletes’ academic progression.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Soccer Coach or Director of Athletics.
Position Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
Experience: Competitive playing experience in soccer is highly desirable. 1-3 years of coaching experience is preferred. Must maintain certification in first aid/CPR/AED throughout the entire appointment.
Communication/Language: Basic: Ability to read, listen to and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple correspondence.
Other Requirements: Excellent communication skills. Commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students and demonstrated experience working with young adults. Desire to work in a rural, small-school environment devoted to providing liberal arts education, building community, and helping students prepare for their future careers.
