Part-Time Faculty of Music (Trumpet)
Job Summary
The Clayton State University Department of Film, Communication, and Performing Arts seeks a part-time Instructor of Music with a focus on applied trumpet. The start date for this position is August 2, 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate music majors and minors, serve on jury and recital grading committees, and periodically contribute to departmental success by teaching courses in another area (or other areas) of the music curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses and individual lessons in trumpet performance
- Provide individualized trumpet lessons and mentorship to students
- Develop and update course materials to reflect current industry practices and University System of Georgia requirements
- Participate in student performances, juries, and departmental events as appropriate
- Maintain regular office hours and communicate effectively with students
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree or a minimum of 40 graduate credit hours in trumpet performance or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in trumpet performance
- Strong understanding of trumpet technique for a variety of musical styles
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills
- Ability to teach classical trumpet technique and style to applied students
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate or professional level
- Active professional career in trumpet performance or related field
- Ability to teach additional courses in related areas
