The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time Instructor - Philosophy at our Brenham Campus.
Job Summary
To perform the day-to-day operations of the instructional program. To teach courses as scheduled. Faculty in this position teach PHIL 1301: Introduction to Philosophy and/or PHIL 2306: Introduction to Ethics
Principal Accountabilities
- Provides instruction for courses at a variety of times and locations as needed
- Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence
- Maintains access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication
- Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution
- Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
- Advises students in academic matters
- Evaluates students' performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner
- Assists in the development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives
- Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Head, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum
- Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community
- Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments
- Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities
- Engages in collegial activities and service activities across the department, division, and college
- Possesses a passion for teaching community college students
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both written and orally
- Attends college orientation and required institutional meetings
- Responsible for other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- Masters degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy (per SACSCOC, courses in theology, religion, and education courses do not satisfy this requirement)
- Experience teaching college-level philosophy courses
- Experience teaching at a community college or two-year college
- This position is to teach in-person Philosophy classes on the Brenham Campus

- Clearly explaining concepts, active listening, and providing constructive, immediate feedback
- Creating a positive, safe, and collaborative learning environment that encourages student participation and self-management
- Maintaining subject-matter expertise, engaging in continuous professional development, and demonstrating cultural competence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using D2L/Brightspace
- Experience teaching Introduction to Philosophy and/or Introduction to Ethics
- Please provide at least three professional references
