Path 1 Kawader: Research Assistant – Film and Media

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Kawader Research Assistant Fellow position in Film and Media within the Arts and Humanities division under the supervision of Prof. Surabhi Sharma.

The successful candidate will support ongoing film projects that require independent research, assistance from different stages of production including pre-production, production and post-production. Film projects include a documentary and music collaboration along the Silk Route from North-West China to Central Asia to South Asia and the Arab World. A second film project includes research on circulation of people, material and culture within the Indian Ocean.

This position includes mentoring of the Research Assistant’s own film project from proposal writing to research to production and exhibition.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in research for the ongoing documentary film project on Music along the Silk Route: From North West China to Central Asia to South Asia and the Arab world. Responsibilities include pre-production, production and data management. The project might require travel.
• Assist in the research for a new film project that looks at the circulation of people, material and culture along the trade routes in the Indian Ocean.
• Mentoring of the Research Assistant’s own film project within the UAE. Mentoring includes proposal writing, research, pre-production, production and post-production.
• Assist in the planning and execution of dissemination and exhibition of recent film projects, including accompanying to select film festivals.

Supervision

Supervised by Prof. Surabhi Sharma

Required:

• B.A. in Arts & Humanities with a Major or Minor in Film and New Media.
• Experience in research for the Arts.

Preferred:

• B.A. in Arts & Humanities with experience in research for the Arts.
• Experience in research within Arab Crossroads or Arab History.
