Job Summary
The Patient Care Specialist position at Georgia Southern University Health Services contributes to student health and well-being through care coordination, patient navigation, and clinical and administrative support.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient intake activities, appointment scheduling, collection and management of medical records, and referrals to promote timely access to care and continuity of care
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations and institutional policies
- Document patient interactions and care coordination activities accurately in the electronic health record
- Support providers and clinical staff by facilitating patient communication and ensuring necessary documentation is available for patient care
- Connect patients with appropriate campus and community resources based on identified needs
- Assist with insurance verification, prior authorizations, and other administrative processes that facilitate patient care
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience
- One (1) year Experience working in healthcare and/or community resource navigation
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
- Completion of all courses of accredited CMA, RMA, or EMT program
Preferred Experience
- Experience using an electronic health records system
- Experience providing care management services
- One (1) or more years of experience in medical assisting
Proposed Salary
$19.15 - $23.97 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

- Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position

- Ability to document clinical interactions using Electronic Medical Record system
- Ability to manage a caseload of clients
Knowledge
- Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
- Understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by students in higher education
