Payroll Specialist I

The Payroll Specialist I performs routine accounting and administrative functions that support payroll processing.
This position is scheduled for 30 hours per week.

Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists in the processing of bi-weekly payroll. Reviews payroll reports for accuracy, performs necessary entry and adjustments.
- Maintains the online time keeping system. Assists with access issues. Monitors the submission and approval of recorded time and time off requests.
- Performs new hire Social Security verifications with the Social Security Administration.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll deduction registers, supplier invoice requests, and vendor payments.
- Processes off-cycle payroll check payments.
- Responds to payroll inquiries. Researches and resolves issues related to payroll and reported time.
- Assists with the preparation and distribution of W-2 reprints.
- Assists with the calculation and reporting of non-cash fringe benefits.
- Assists with the testing of payroll related system configurations and upgrades.
Other Duties:
- Adheres to established standards on the use and protection of restricted data as outlined in FGCU Policy 3.042. Responsible for completing the ‘Get Secure' training course annually.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- This position requires a high school diploma and four years of relevant full-time experience.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Experience with general accounting procedures.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field.
- Payroll experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with Workday Payroll and time tracking modules.
