The position is for a period of four years. The nominal length of the PhD programme is three years. The fourth year is distributed as 25 % each year and will consist of teaching and other duties. The objective of the position is to complete research training to the level of a doctoral degree. Admission to the PhD programme is a prerequisite for employment, and the programme period starts on commencement of the position.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. It is planned for a research stay abroad working with co-supervisors.
You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.
The project
The IPSUM (Identification and Prevention of Suboptimal Use of Medication) research group perform research within various facets of pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy, and pharmacoepidemiology to identify suboptimal use of medications and related factors, and promote appropriate medication use and management.
Our research projects range from pharmacoepidemiologic investigations that use data from national registries, pharmacy practice and quality studies in community pharmacies, to patient-centered studies aimed at identifying medication-related problems and devising solutions. Additionally, we conduct interdisciplinary intervention studies to determine the most effective ways for healthcare professionals to collaborate in the best interest of the patient, and we delve into health economics to establish models for cost savings in healthcare.
Our research methodology encompasses a blend of both quantitative and qualitative approaches, which we employ as necessary to explore our research inquiries.
The position is affiliated with the GENESIS project «Generating real-world evidence on early-life medication exposure and strategies to support better health outcomes across lifespan». Glucagonlike peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are increasingly prescribed for obesity and type 2 diabetes among women of reproductive age. Clinical guidelines recommend discontinuing GLP-1RAs when pregnancy is planned. However, several pregnancies might still occur in women who are actively using or have recently discontinued GLP-1RAs. Currently, human data on safety outcomes associated with GLP-1RA exposure around conception are sparse. This PhD project utilizes data from Norwegian linked health registries with advanced statistical methods to generate robust, evidencebased guidance for pregnancy planning among women using GLP-1RAs, with the potential to improve health outcomes for mothers and children.
The applicants must present a description outlining the academic basis of the PhD project. The project description shall not exceed 1000 words, literature references included. It must include a description of the topic, research question(s) and a reasoning of the choices. It should also indicate the methodologies to be used. The final project description will be developed in cooperation with the supervisor.
