The Institut für Herz- und Kreislaufphysiologie of the University Medical Center Göttingen is looking for a new position to 01.08.2025

PhD Student (f/m/d), part time, with 25,025 hours per week, limited for 3 years, Remuneration according to TV-L

We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated PhD student with an interest in optimizing gene transfer for optogenetic stimulation of skeletal muscles and laryngeal pacemaking in particular. The successful applicant will be part of the newly funded CRC1690 and will benefit from the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies (EKFZ: https://ekfz.uni-goettingen.de/) and its new academy of the EKFZ and further the MBEXC and its Hertha-Sponer-College.

Your tasks

  • work within in the team for optogenetic laryngeal pacemaking of the CRC1690 within the working group vegetative optogenetics in collaboration with the department for otorhinolaryngology
  • optimize the gene transfer into skeletal muscles
  • explore optimized channelrhodopsins sin skeletal muscles
  • prepare the translation of optogenetic therapies
  • obtain a PhD degree

Your qualifications

  • completed Master of Sciences or equivalent in a Life Sciences subject (molecular medicine, biology, chemistry, physics,…)
  • labwork experience
  • independent, responsible, flexible working style and ability to work in an international team
  • interested in translation and optogenetics
