we will develop and investigate anode-free sodium batteries based on polymer electrolytes. We are therefore seeking a PhD student to contribute to Uppsala University's part of the project.
Duties
The work involves experimental polymer science, materials chemistry, electrochemistry and spectroscopy. Activities will include both materials development and the fabrication of battery cells, as well as electrochemical testing and spectroscopic materials analysis (primarily X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, XPS). The project is carried out in close international collaboration, and both short-term and longer research visits to the Taiwanese project partner may therefore be relevant. The duties may also include participation in teaching and other departmental responsibilities, although these will comprise no more than 20% of the working time.
Requirements
To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, you must have
- been awarded a second-cycle degree in chemistry, physics or materials science, or
- completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level including an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or
- acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
The candidate must have:
- very good oral and written proficiency in English.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Additional qualifications
Experience from battery fabrication and electrochemical characterization, hands-on experimental advanced materials analysis (especially electron spectroscopy), polymer materials and/or polymer electrolytes.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2027-01-11 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
