Physics, Full-Time Faculty
Position Summary
The Department of Physics and Engineering is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Physics faculty position for the 2026-2027 academic year.
This full-time faculty role offers an exciting opportunity to enhance the exceptional education and pedagogy at the College. The Physics and Engineering Department provides a range of courses, from introductory to advanced levels in both Physics and Engineering, including algebra and calculus-based programs. Our offerings encompass Engineering, Applied Engineering Technology, and Biomedical Equipment Technology, equipping students for workforce readiness and transfer to Bachelor’s and Accelerated Master’s programs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Applicants should express a strong interest in contributing to the Department’s future and the College’s community. We seek candidates who are actively engaged in teaching and dedicated to promoting student success both inside and outside the classroom.
- The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses in physics (both calculus and non-calculus based), engineering, engineering technology, and electronics.
- Willingness to take on leadership responsibilities within the department, including program coordination and development.
- Assist community college students in enhancing their physics knowledge and skills, along with fostering professional attitudes and behaviors for success in college and the workplace.
- Facilitate student learning by providing effective instruction and conducting evaluations based on each course’s standard outline.
- Meet all scheduled responsibilities, including office hours and meetings. Clearly communicate availability to students and supervisors through the course syllabus.
- Develop a strong understanding of course materials, preparing lectures and hands-on activities for effective teaching.
- Assign grades and maintain course records in compliance with FERPA regulations, ensuring timely submission of grades.
- Identify and address student issues proactively.
- Maintain and develop curricula aligned with departmental learning objectives, collaborating with faculty and administrators on standards and textbook selections.
- Participate actively in the department’s intellectual community and contribute to college-wide committees and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate a connection to the College’s mission, vision, and values, contributing to institutional success.
- Engage in the College’s academic life by participating in graduation, recruitment events, and student activities. Create learning opportunities for students, including dual-enrollment high school programs.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among faculty, staff, and students, inspiring others to achieve shared goals.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment, being sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of students and faculty.
- Actively engage in assessing student learning outcomes at all levels.
- Strive for excellence in teaching, employing best practices to enhance student retention and success, and utilizing innovative strategies and technologies.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth, student mentoring, and staying current with technological advancements and developments in the discipline.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering or Engineering Technology OR a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering or Engineering Technology with at least 5 years industry experience in an engineering or engineering technology role.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Ability to effectively use teaching strategies and technologies for in-person and/or online learning.
- Knowledge of, and ability to integrate, current technological applications into our physics courses.
- Ability to deliver required, predefined course elements, while drawing from one’s own knowledge and experiences, to engage students and make the course their own.
- Ability to teach a variety of day and evening, and first- and second-year courses, at the main campus and/or at Regional Centers.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Commitment to participating in the intellectual life of the department and a willingness to participate in the College through leadership in department and college-wide committees.
- Experience with and commitment to the use of instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering teaching experience preferred.
- Ph.D. or experience with engineering projects, technical documentation and publications or certifications in engineering, engineering technology, biomedical equipment technology or electronics preferred.
- Industry recognized certifications in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related fields preferred.
- Experience in developing and implementing academic programs preferred.
- Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
- Bilingual or other language proficiency.
