Political Science Instructor (Fall 2026)
Job Summary
Full-time members of the faculty are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of instruction and management of assigned classes. Additional responsibilities include fulfilling the Metropolitan Community College mission, vision, values, strategic plan, Board of Trustees’ charges and educational philosophy, and primary goal of providing a quality education for all students attending the college.
Final compensation offer will be determined, based on various factors, such as academic credentials, relevant work and instructional experience.
Disclaimer: This position provides services and support to both the Online (3444 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64111) and Penn Valley (3201 Southwest Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64111 ) campuses. Responsibilities and duties may require regular travel and coordination between the two locations.
Essential Functions
- Deliver effective asynchronous and in-person instruction
- Assess student learning
- Manage classes and online and in-person, learning environments
- Promote continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning
- Support learning through student engagement
- Provide student guidance
- Pursue professional development by staying current in academic field
- Actively participate collegially in department, campus, cross-college, discipline specific, district, and community service activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Political Science OR Master's degree with at least 18 GCH in combination of the qualifying fields (International Relations, Law (Juris Doctorate), Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy)
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of asynchronous, online teaching experience at the college level, using interactive teaching techniques. Experience using assessment techniques to promote teaching and learning excellence. Demonstrated experience with current asynchronous and online pedagogical and instructional methods. Demonstrated experience with utilizing a variety of classroom technologies, both inside and outside the classroom. Proficiency in technology for personal productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite), online teaching tools, and Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas).
