Post-Doctoral Associate
About the Job
Job duties
A postdoctoral associate is sought for a position in Professor Richard James’ research group to develop predictive theory and associated simulations for interfacial properties of bicrystal interfaces. Such interfaces are created by single crystal membranes grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy and released from a substrate, twisted by a certain angle, and then placed back on the substrate with atomically precise control of orientation. Of particular interest are properties of Moire and quasicrystal interfaces created by this method, their stability, and possible ferromagnetic, ferroelectric, or superconducting interfaces, or interfaces with novel optical properties. One year appointment. Extension may be possible at the end of the first year.
Percentage breakdown:
- Develop predictive theory and associated simulations for interfacial properties of bicrystal interfaces. (85%)
- Write reports and present information as needed. (10%)
- Mentor graduate students in the research group. (5%)
Qualifications
Required qualifications
PhD in Aerospace Engineering
Preferred qualifications
A strong theoretical/computational background on functional materials and a multidisciplinary mindset. Additional expertise on the prediction of mesoscale properties of these interfaces, such as their structural stability (wrinkling), charge transport, and optoelectronic properties, would also be valuable.
