Advertised Job Summary
The Wood Lab in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support NIH-funded research examining neuro-immune basis of gestational psychosocial stress-induced behavioral and cardiovascular vulnerability. Under limited supervision, the Postdoctoral Fellow will perform experiments using cutting-edge techniques to study how these systems. The individual will demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations. This position is established in support of expanded research activities.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- The demonstrated ability to write research manuscripts, grants and train undergraduates in the lab is desired.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- The individual must be highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team.
- Experience handling rodents (rats and/or mice), experience with rodent behavioral analyses, tissue dissection, and knowledge of rodent mating is critical.
- Excellent English speaking/writing skills required. Experience in writing and securing local and federal grants, and experience of program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Job Duties
Design and conduct research experiments (40%): Designs and conducts original research related to understanding the intersection of neuro-immune function, stress, and cardiovascular and mitochondrial outcomes.
Data analysis (20%): Responsible for documenting and recording research findings, conducting complex data and statistical analyses.
Scientific writing (20%): Synthesizes data findings and writes scientific manuscripts and grants.
Scientific communication (5%): Develops oral and poster presentations.
Mentoring (10%): Actively mentors junior members of the laboratory.
Regulatory compliance (5%): Maintains regulatory training and assists with IACUC and IBC protocols.
