Activities and context
The Digital Ocean Laboratory (DOL) project, within the framework of the Offshore Technology Innovation Center (OTIC), hosted at the University of São Paulo (USP), is inviting applications for a post-doctoral fellowship to conduct research in integrated oceanography, using data science for monitoring the ocean and the Brazilian coast. Research proposals must be positioned at the interface between biological oceanography and physical oceanography, with a particular focus on physical–biological coupling.
Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, physical variability and its influence on plankton distribution; ecological connectivity and larval dispersal; the transport of organisms and biogenic particles; the effects of fronts, eddies, upwelling, and other mesoscale processes on biological communities; applications of remote sensing integrated with in situ observations, numerical modeling, and machine learning; and the development of ecological indicators for environmental monitoring in the Campos and Santos Basins, Brazil.
Mandatory requirements
Applications from people with training in oceanography, biology, ecology, physics, numerical modeling, remote sensing, data science, or related fields are welcome, as long as the pre-proposal clearly contributes to the study of physical-biological processes in the ocean. The pre-projects should focus on study areas within the Campos and/or Santos Basins in the southeast of Brazil, in line with the scientific and technological objectives of OTIC.
