Postdoctoral Associate

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Civil and Environmental Engineering

to support the development and scaling of novel stationary energy storage technologies. The research focuses on the intersection of electrochemistry and geotechnical engineering, specifically exploring the reuse of industrial byproducts for large-scale energy applications. Will contribute to the transition of laboratory-validated concepts toward larger-scale demonstrations, focusing on system optimization. Oversee the transition of energy storage components from small-scale laboratory testing to larger prototypes; evaluate the performance, efficiency, and longevity of experimental storage devices through rigorous testing; develop models to assess the life-cycle costs and Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS); support the conceptual design of containment systems that integrate energy storage within geotechnical structures; and assist in the preparation of technical reports and design documentation.

Job Requirements

  • REQUIRED: Ph.D. in Electro-chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; proven experience in electrochemistry and the development of energy storage systems; experience with grid-scale deployment, power system impacts, or renewable energy integration; proficiency in techno-economic analysis and numerical modeling; and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and handle projects involving intellectual property and industry-relevant constraints.
  • PREFERRED: Familiarity with the utilization of industrial waste products.

Applications should include a CV and a brief paragraph (maximum 1 page) of previous experience, interests, and why the candidate might be a good fit for this project.

Appointment Term: One year, with the possibility of extension based on the course of the research.
