The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

The Alabama Water Institute at the University of Alabama invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the CONSERVE Research Group in support of the CRIMSON Water Initiative’s Wiregrass Hub project. This position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of water resources, land use, ecology, and data science, contributing directly to innovative, applied solutions for watershed and ecosystem resilience. Leads and supports research focused on fit-for-purpose water and ecosystem analyses, with particular emphasis on understanding how land use decisions and environmental variability affect Wiregrass region ecology and watershed health. Works closely with a collaborative team of scientists, data analysts, and stakeholders to integrate unique datasets, develop analytical workflows, and communicate results to both technical and applied audiences. Initial appointment will be for one year. Renewal will be contingent upon available of external funding derived from research programs or specific projects up to three years.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications
PhD in environmental science, hydrology, ecology, geography, data science, or a related discipline. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.
Skills and Knowledge
Excellent GIS and ecosystem modelling skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in spatial analysis, environmental data integration, and interdisciplinary research collaboration.
