Call for Applications for Postdoctoral Position in Sociology for 2027–2029
Philosophical Faculty, University of Hradec Králové, CZE
Under the Institutional Support Programme for Postdoctoral Positions the faculty intends to appoint a researcher at 1.0 FTE.

Candidate Profile:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in sociology specialising in the production of knowledge, science and technology studies (STS), or digital sociology. We welcome a broad range of research topics, including the production and legitimation of scientific and expert knowledge, transformations of scientific and technological institutions and practices, and society’s relationship with emerging technologies and their social, political, or ethical implications. We also welcome a variety of methodological approaches, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. Applicants are expected to hold a completed PhD in sociology or a related field, to have a publication record appropriate to their early career stage, and to be interested in joining the research team and contributing to the preparation of collaborative grant proposals and publications.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- independently plan and conduct research within agreed research plan;
- prepare scholarly publications with the affiliation to the UHK according to the research plan;
- actively contribute to the development of a collaborative and internationally oriented research environment.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
- A postdoctoral researcher must have obtained a PhD or its equivalent within the preceding seven years. Verifiable career breaks, in particular maternity or parental leave, long-term illness, care for a close relative, or other similar objective reasons, may be excluded from this period.
- Applicants must have completed a doctoral programme at a foreign university or at a university in the Czech Republic other than the University of Hradec Králové.
- Applicants must have a command of English at least at B2 level.
- Applicants must demonstrate a relevant publication record commensurate with the length of their academic career to date, the conventions of the relevant discipline, and the specialist focus of the postdoctoral position
- The assessment of a candidate’s academic quality may also take into account citation impact, the H-index, or other discipline-relevant indicators of research performance.
- It shall be considered an advantage if the candidate has previously participated in national or international research projects, has verifiable experience abroad, experience in international research collaboration, a record of joint publications with foreign institutions, or the potential to participate in the preparation of future project applications.
- The candidate’s research proposal must be aligned with the academic focus of the relevant faculty.
Applications must be submitted by e-mail, together with all documents required under Article VII(2) of Vice-Rector’s Directive No. 13/2026 and FF UHK Dean’s Decree No. 18/2026, to the Head of the Research Office of the Philosophical Faculty, UHK, Mgr. Lenka Kašparová (lenka.kasparova.1@uhk.cz), no later than 1 October 2026.
Minimum set of documents to be submitted by the applicant:
- a completed form in English – see Annex 1: Application Form for 2027–2029 Postdoctoral Job Positions at the University of Hradec Králové;
- a copy of the diploma certifying the award of a PhD or its foreign equivalent; if the diploma is issued in a language other than Czech, Slovak, or English, the applicant shall submit a certified translation of the diploma into English;
- a structured CV in English, not exceeding 2 pages, in a font size of at least 11 points;
- an overview of the 10 most significant scientific achievements, including the number of citations, in English;
- a research proposal in English (maximum 1,000 words);
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to online interviews which will be held from 26 October to 6 November 2026. Results will be announced by 16 November 2026.
The Selection Committee shall decide by vote whether to include an applicant on the shortlist of candidates invited to an interview, following a joint assessment of the criteria set out following:
a. the applicant’s publication record;
b. the applicant’s international research experience;
c. the quality, originality, feasibility, and relevance of the research plan;
d. the alignment of the research plan with the research priorities of the relevant department/institute and the Faculty.
