Using Sonogenetics to Replace Pharmaceuticals
A US government funded project will mobilize ultrasound to activate genetically modified ion channels to drive nerve repair and suppress pain. Neuronal cell lines and adult primary sensory neurons will be transduced with AAVs carrying sonochannels which will be modulated by ultrasound to activate signaling pathways linked to neuronal metabolism and axonal regeneration.

Qualifications: Must hold a PhD in neurobiology or related field (e.g. cell biology or pharmacology). Experience with signal transduction, cell culture, gene expression studies, genetic manipulation and/or fluorescence microscopy would be advantageous.
