Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cardiovascular Image Analysis

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Multimodal Medical Data Integration & Analysis (MultiMeDIA) Lab (https://eng.ox.ac.uk/multimedia) at the Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Headington, Oxford. The post is funded by the Heart Research UK - Novel and Emerging Technologies (NET) Grant and is fixed-term for 1 year, with the possibility of an extension.

This project will develop novel AI, machine learning, and computational modelling approaches based on patient-specific 3D heart models. You will be responsible for carrying out research in AI, machine learning, and computational modelling; developing novel computational methods to characterise cardiac structure and function; integrating multimodal cardiac datasets; and contributing to patient-specific digital models of the heart. The role offers the opportunity to work at the interface of engineering science, AI, and clinical translation, in close collaboration with colleagues at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, John Radcliffe Hospital.

You should possess a relevant PhD/DPhil, or be near completion, together with relevant experience. You should have strong machine learning and modern deep learning skills, together with some familiarity with biomedical (ideally cardiac) imaging or related computational methods, along with strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Abhirup Banerjee (email: abhirup.banerjee@eng.ox.ac.uk).

For more information about working at the Department, see www.eng.ox.ac.uk/about/work-with-us/.

Only online applications received before midday on 1 June 2026 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV, and the details of two referees as part of your online application. Please note that the application should not exceed 10 pages.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
