Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research associates are expected to coordinate and support students in the development and execution of research tasks and to support faculty investigators, senior researchers, and laboratory personnel. The job consists of supporting the principal investigator in the development and execution of research in the area of materials science, plasma spray, laser/materials interactions, and/or ceramic oxide coatings through the gathering of data and its analysis through computational and analytical methods, through the writing and publishing of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and through the identification and submission of applications for extramural funding.
Job Responsibilities:
The applicant will hold a PhD in ecology and have expertise in the analysis of fossil pollen from South American tropical ecosystems. The position will require a mixture of chemical preparation of pollen samples, identification and counting of fossil pollen, data analysis in R, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research. Development and editing of scientific manuscripts leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals is required. Field work in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in South America, where sediment cores will be raised from remote locations, will be expected. The applicant will provide ad-hoc lectures to undergraduates and graduate students.
