Postdoctoral research position in the fields of macromolecular chemistry & battery research (m/f/d)

We, the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, are one of 85 institutes and research centers of the Max Planck Society (MPG) for the advancement of science. Our focus is on basic medical research. We currently employ around 270 people in science and administration, mainly at our location in Heidelberg. Another location for our institute is currently being established in Heilbronn. We are also part of the Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim, an association of the region's leading life science research institutions.

The Department of Cellular Biophysics (Prof. Dr. Joachim P. Spatz) is looking for a chemist with knowledge and skills in Macromolecular Chemistry/Polymer Science or Colloid Chemistry for research in the field of advanced battery cells.

YOUR TASKS

  • Development of polymer formulations for the marriage of active materials with metallic current collectors
  • Manufacturing and testing of battery electrodes and battery cells
  • Directing a team of technicians and PhD students and collaboration within a highly motivated team in an international environment
  • Collaboration with industrial partners for process development
  • Supporting the management of research and data infrastructure

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research experience in macromolecular synthesis, and soft matter physics
  • preferably experimental experience with liquid and solid electrolytes
  • curiosity to enter new areas and leave beaten paths combined with creativity
  • excellent organizational and communication skills, high flexibility and team spirit
  • independent, goal-oriented, analytical way of working
  • very good written and oral communication skills in German and English
