The University of Chicago invites applications for appointment as Postdoctoral Researcher at the rank of Instructor in the Department of History. This is a full-time position combining research and teaching responsibilities with a focus on 20th century US History. This is a three-year non-renewable appointment, preferably beginning September 2026.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work on independent research under a faculty member’s guidance, conducting advanced, independent, or collaborative research, aiming for high-impact publications of scholarly merit. Simultaneously, they will teach a total of two courses per year, distributed over two quarters. Their teaching responsibilities will primarily serve the Department of History and the Committee on Law, Letters, and Society and will be based on the curricular needs of these two units. There is also an opportunity to teach courses of the candidate’s devising, in consultation with the Department Chair. Applicants who can teach courses on the history of capitalism, law and governance, and political economy are encouraged to apply.
